Daily Dose of God's Word May 11

Daily Dose of God's Word May 11

Memory Verse: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Cor 3:18

The beautiful unity and power of the Trinity working together: in

our rebirth. Titus 3:1-8

All three persons of the Trinity are mentioned in these verses

because all three participate in the work of salvation. Based upon

the redemptive work of his Son, the Father forgives us and sends

the Holy Spirit to wash away our sins and continually renew us.

Daily Dose of God's Word May 10

Memory Verse: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Cor 3:18

The beautiful unity and power of the Trinity working together: in our rebirth.  Read John 3:1-16

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Romans 8:26,37

We have the Father in heaven to care for us. We also have the Son of God to make intercession for us, as John writes: “We have one who speaks to the Father in our defense – Jesus Christ the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John 2:1-2

There is still another, the Holy Spirit, who not only prays for us but also with us. While Christ intercedes in heaven, the Spirit intercedes in our hearts.

I once read: “You might say the Holy Spirit performs a type of editing service on prayers.” In a publishing house, an editor helps the author in making the message of his manuscript more effective and clear. An editor doesn’t do the work for the author; he helps him or her.

We learn from the Bible that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us “with groans that words cannot express.” (Romans 8:26)

The Spirit is in prayer partnership with us. He takes hold on the other end. Like someone who helps us carry a heavy burden or move a piece of furniture by taking hold on the other end.

Thought of the Day

Often we don’t know how to pray, and we don't know what to pray for. The Spirit helps us. He whispers the answer in our heart. He is the helper we need that only God can give to us.

Memory Verse: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

The beautiful unity and power of the Trinity working together:
in the baptism of Jesus. Luke 3:21,22

“Now if God were not triune, if there was no Son, no lamb of God to die in our place, then we would have to atone for our sin ourselves. We would have to provide, for God could not. But—hallelujah!—God has a Son, and in his infinite kindness, he dies, paying the wages of sin, for us. It is because God is triune that the cross is such good news.” ― Michael Reeves, Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to the Christian Faith

Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit. Come to me,

dwell in me, speak to me so I may become

more like Christ. Lord, give me the courage to be open.

Affirming Trinity's Work in Salvation

The beautiful unity and power of the Trinity working together: in our salvation  1 Peter 1:1,2

These verses mention all three members of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. All members of the Trinity work to bring about our salvation. The Father chose us before we chose him (Ephesians 1:4). Jesus Christ, the Son, died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:6-10). The Holy Spirit brings us the benefits of salvation and sets us apart (sanctifies us) for God’s service (2 Thessalonians 2:13).

Affirming the Trinity

Daily Dose of God's Word 5-7

Memory Verse: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Affirming the Trinity

One of the most distinctive and, without a doubt, most challenging teachings of the church is typically called the Trinity.

Explaining the nature of the Trinity has proven to be complex and, for many, confusing. The most widely held explanation, rooted in the 4th and 5th century, focuses on the nature of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Three persons and yet one essence or substance. Other explanations focus on their relationship to one another (such as the assertion in the Nicene Creed that the son is "eternally begotten").

Although such explanations are theologically important, it is actually easier to assert the truth of the Trinity than to explain it. Historically seven simple statements might be said to affirm the truth of the Trinity.

1. The Father is God.
2. The Son is God
3. The Spirit is God
4. The Father is not the Son.
5. The Son is not the Spirit.
6. The Spirit is not the Father.
7. There is only one God.

But, whether someone uses the actual term "Trinity" or not, to affirm those seven statements to all be true is to accept the truth of the Trinity.

For example the beautiful unity and power of the Trinity working together: in creating the Church

The Father was the Designer (Ephesians 3:10-11).

Jesus formed the church in his earthly ministry.

The Spirit was the Perfecter who brought it into reality (John 14:26; 16:7-15).

Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit. Come to me,

dwell in me, speak to me so I may become

more like Christ. Lord, give me the courage to be open.

Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit. Amen.

Memory Verse: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Cor 3:18

God has a plural personality.

In Genesis 1:1, the Hebrew word for God is Elohim – a plural word.

Genesis 1.26 says, “Let us make man in our image” – again, the

plural. The Hebrew word “yachid” means an absolute one, while

“achid” means a unified one.  In Deuteronomy 6:4-5, the word God is

“Elohim” (plural) and one is “achid.”

In the New Testament, see Matthew 1:18-23; 3:16-17; 28:19; John

15:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 2:18, 21-22.
