Daily Dose For October 10

Memory Verse;  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NASB

Esther 8  Psalms 97

“We will not raise arms against any other nation, we will not practice the art of war, because through -Jesus Christ we have become the children of peace.” Origen of Alexandria

God of peace, dawn reminds us that your mercies are new every morning. You have been merciful to us despite our sin. Teach us such mercy. Open our eyes to see the violence we condone with our silences and with our consumption. We give thanks that repentance is the beginning of true conversion. Amen. (commonprayer.net)

Daily Dose For October 9

Memory Verse;  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NASB

Esther 6-7  Psalms 96

The issue is not chronology, but direction that we can decide. . .We are not retreating but looking ahead to perceive what is important.  Simplification implies leaving things behind and moving to a new future.   (Arthur G. Gish, Beyond the Rat Race.)

O Lord, in Whom, is our hope, remove far from us, we pray Thee, empty hopes and presumptuous confidence. Make our hearts so right with Thy most holy and loving heart, that hoping in Thee we may do good; until that day when faith and hope shall be abolished by sight and possession, and love shall be all in all. Amen

That for which I long becomes that to which I belong.

Richard Swenson A Minute of Margin, Reflection 57

Lord, your church is such that when one member of the body fails, the whole body suffers. Help us encourage one another in faith so that working together we might become a unified body that goes forth into the world to proclaim the good news. Amen.

The more important the decision, the longer the time you should take to make it.  If life's pace pushes you, push back.  And take as much time as you need for clearness to develop.  Richard Swenson A Minute of Margin, Reflection 56

Dear God, We are your children whether we understand it or not. Thank you for protecting and caring for us, until your Glory comes and everything is completed that was begun through Jesus Christ. We wait on you, Lord. To return for us. In Jesus' name Amen!

It is solitude and solitude alone that opens the possibility of a radical relationship to God that can withstand all external events up to and beyond death.  Dallas Willard

Daily Dose For October 5

Memory Verse,  In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NASB

Catch-up day Psalms 92

To some, the temporal triumph of the Christian community in the world is a sign of God's favor and the essential righteousness of the Christian position. The irony of the matter, though, is that whenever the Christian community gains worldly power, it nearly always loses its capacity to be the critic of the power and influence it so readily brokers.  Peter J. Gomes

Lord, we thank you for the cloud of witnesses who remind us that loving you is a perpetual call to active duty. Grant us both passion and courage to answer the call to peace and justice, no matter where it might lead us. Amen. (CommonPrayer.net)

Daily Dose For October 4

Memory Verse, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NASB

Catch-up day Psalms 91

The question should not be "What would Jesus do?" but rather, more dangerously, "What would Jesus have me do?" The onus is not on Jesus but on us, for Jesus did not come to ask semidivine human beings to do impossible things. He came to ask human beings to live up to their full humanity; he wants us to live in the full implication of our human gifts, and that is far more demanding. Peter J. Gomes

Dear Heavenly Father we commit this day into Your Hands. We dedicate our lives to You as Your servants and vessels. May You use us today for Your service and Your glory. We submit and surrender ourselves to You. Holy Spirit may You guide, lead, and direct us today in Jesus' name. Amen
