ABANDON

Chasing after this world makes me tired
Praising my own name leaves me dry
There's gotta be so much more to life than this
A higher calling that I missed
I want my life to count, every breath
I wanna live with abandon
Give You all that I am
Every part of my heart, Jesus
I place in Your hands
I wanna live with abandon
Give You all that I am
Every part of my heart, Jesus
I place in your hands
I wanna leave with abandon

Sentence Prayer

Jesus, Give us courage to confess your name: and go with you against the grain. Amen

STONES

Snippet

If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Scripture

Early next morning he returned to the Temple and the entire crowd came to him. So he sat down and began to teach them. But the scribes and Pharisees brought in to him a woman who had been caught in adultery. They made her stand in front, and then said to him, “Now, master, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. According to the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women to death. Now, what do you say about her?”
They said this to test him, so that they might have some good grounds for an accusation. But Jesus stooped down and began to write with his finger in the dust on the ground. But as they persisted in their questioning, he straightened himself up and said to them, “Let the one among you who has never sinned throw the first stone at her.” Then he stooped down again and continued writing with his finger on the ground. And when they heard what he said, they were convicted by their own consciences and went out, one by one, beginning with the eldest until they had all gone.
Jesus was left alone, with the woman still standing where they had put her. So he stood up and said to her, “Where are they all—did no one condemn you?”
And she said, “No one, sir.” “Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus to her. “Go home and do not sin again.”  John 8:2-11 JB Phillips

WE ARE ONE

Snippet

In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity

Scripture

I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word;  that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. John 17:20,21

Deep in this fight to survive, always hurting
Alone in the dark with no light, always searching
Keep us lost in our devices
Blinded, broken, and deceived
Time has come to be the righteous
Stand up and fight the power
There's no way they can stop us now
We're the stars tonight and we are one
There's nobody that can bring us down
We're united, and they don't want us to be
Come to this day where our lives can't be broken
Now here we are with our future wide open
Time has come for us to rise
From the depths of their disease
There's no hope if we divide
Stand up and fight the power
There's no way they can stop us now
We're the stars tonight and we are one
There's nobody that can bring us down
We're united, and they don't want us to be
We are one and won't be shaken
It's our prophecy
and the light is on for the taking
Stand up and fight the power
There's no way they can stop us now
We're the stars tonight and we are one
There's nobody that can bring us down
We're united, and they don't want us to be
They wanna keep you on the ground with a foot on your neck
Make you feel like you're defeated

Sentence Prayer

Lord, for the low importance we have given to those words that came
from your Heart: “I have other sheep not from this fold. I must also
bring them; they too shall hear my voice”:

We ask you to forgive us, Lord.

For our disagreements with our Christian brothers and sisters,
sometimes full of irony, or narrowness of spirit, or exaggeration; for our
intransigence and harsh judgments about other Christians and Churches:

We ask you to forgive us, Lord.

For all acts of violence or unkindness against our fellow Christians; for
all in the past and sustained to this day for which we are to blame:

We ask you to forgive us, Lord.

For all attitudes of pride and self-sufficiency that our Churches may
have shown across the ages to other Christians, and for all our failures
of awareness or understanding towards each other:

We ask you to forgive us, Lord.

For the bad examples in our conduct, which have slowed down,
diminished or destroyed the effects of grace in the souls of others:

We ask you to forgive us, Lord.

For forgetting to offer prayer, frequent, friendly, fervent, on behalf of
our fellow Christians:

We ask you to forgive us, Lord.

Above the frontiers of language, race and nation, through all our rich
difference and diversity:

Unite us, Jesus.

With Christians who are persecuted and in need, with our migrant and
refugee brothers and sisters across the world and in our midst:

Unite us, Jesus.

Above our ignorance, our prejudices, or any unconscious hostility,
through better understanding and ever closer communion:

Unite us, Jesus.

Above our different spiritual and theological traditions, in one spirit,
one Bread and one Body:

Unite us, Jesus.

O God, for the increase of your glory:

Gather your scattered people.

O God, for the triumph of good and of truth:

Gather your scattered people.

O God, that there may be but one fold and one Shepherd:

Gather your scattered people.

O God, that justice and peace may finally reign in the world:

Gather your scattered people.

O God, to bring fullness of joy to the heart of your Son:

Gather your scattered people.  Amen

KISS ME

Snippet

Why do we close our eyes when we pray, cry, kiss, dream? Because the most beautiful things in life are not seen but felt only by heart. Unknown

Oh kiss me out of the bearded barley,
Nightly , beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You'll wear those shoes and I will wear that dress
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift you open hand
Strike up the band, and make the fireflies dance
Silvermoon's sparkling,
So kiss me
Kiss me down by the broken tree house
Swing me , upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring , bring your flowered hat
We'll take the trail marked on your father's map

Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift you open hand
Strike up the band, and make the fireflies dance
Silvermoon's sparkling,
So kiss me
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift you open hand
Strike up the band, and make the fireflies dance
Silvermoon's sparkling,
So kiss me
So kiss me

BABY

Snippet

“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough..” ― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

Baby I got love for thee
So deep inside of me I don't know where to start
Yeah, yeah
I love you more than anything
But the words can't even touch what's in my heart
No, oh
When I try to explain it I be sounding insane
The words don't ever come out right
I get all tongue tied (and twisted)
I can't explain what I'm feeling
And I say baby, baby, baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, oh baby, my baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, baby I
All I'm tryna say is you're my everything baby
But every time I try to say it
Words, they only complicate it
Baby, baby
Baby I'm so down for you
No matter what you do, (real talk), I'll be around
Yeah, yeah, oh baby
See baby I been feelin' you
Before I even knew what feelings were about
Oh baby
When I try to explain it I be sounding all crazy
Words don't ever come out right
I get all tongue tied (and twisted)
I can't explain what I'm (feeling)
And I say baby baby, baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, oh baby, my baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, baby I
All I'm tryna say is you're my everything (baby)
But every time I try to say it
Words, they only complicate it
Baby, baby
Straight up, you got me,
All in, how could I not be,
I sure hope you know
If it's even possible, I love you more
Than the word love can say it
It's better not explaining
That's why I keep saying… Baby I
Ooh baby, oh baby, my baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, baby I
All I'm tryna say is you're my everything baby
But every time I try to say it
Words, they only complicate it
Baby, baby
Baby
Baby, baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, oh baby, my baby
(Baby I) ooh baby, baby I
All I'm tryna say is you're my everything baby
But every time I try to say it
Words, they only complicate it
Every time I try to say it
Words, they only complicate it
Every time I try to say it
Words, they only complicate it
Baby, baby
Baby, baby

Sentence Prayer

Father; Help me go all out in my love for my baby.  Help me to love exactly as Christ did the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love made the church whole. May my love for you baby make you whole and never less than.  Jesus words evoked her beauty. May my words never bring ugliness baby, but make you shine with love. Everything Jesus does and says is designed to bring the best out of the bride of Christ, may my words do the same for my baby. Holy Spirit since were already “one” in marriage, teach us to love as one.  Amen   (Prayer based on Ephesians 5:25-28 Message)

DREAMS

Snippet

We must never put out dreams of success as God’s purpose for us.  The question of getting to a particular end is a mere incident.  What we call the process, God calls the end.  His purpose is that I depend on Him and on His power now. It is the process, not the end which is glorifying to God. (Oswald Chambers, My utmost for His Highest Westwood NJ Barbour and Co 1963 Pg 152)

Scripture

He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Genesis 28:12 NIV

Song
"Collapsible Lung” By Reliant K

Between the miles of open road
I lost sight of what might matter the most
I stumbled into the great unknown and found
That time won’t slow down
I’m getting by with my collapsible lung
And it’s a good time 100% of the time
And I’m like a ladder with a missing rung
And it’s a slow climb headed back to the sky
And I’m feelin' backwards when I’m trying the most
And I hope haven’t heard the last words from the holy ghost
Cause I think that I’m supposed to be
Well on my way by now
I'll do the twist with my replaceable hips
And turn you right round
Then dip you down to the ground
And now I wanna grow old and rub your tired limbs
And take it easy
Until we wither away
Until we wither away
Between the miles of open road
I lost sight of what might matter the most
I stumbled into the great unknown and found
That time can’t slow down
To take a breath and then take it in
To think of places I’ll go I haven’t been
To pour my heart into everything I've found
Time won’t slow down
Feelin' backwards
And I hope haven’t heard the last words
No, no, no
Cause I think that I’m supposed to be
Well on my way-eh-eh!
Eh eh!
Wooo…
To pour my heart into everything I found
Between the miles of open road
I lost sight of what might matter the most
I stumbled into the great unknown and found
That time won’t slow down
To take a breath and then take it in
To think of places I’ll go I haven’t been

HOLY SPIRIT 21

Holy Spirit 21
1 Corinthians 14 Part a
Teacher’s notes

Hook: Write down everything you think you know about I Corinthians 14?

Now Write down everything you think you know about the Bible talks about Speaking in Tongues.

Now I want you to take that piece of paper wad it up and throw it away!

Now Let’s write down everything we have learned in 1 Corinthians about the Holy Spirit

This is important because Paul has a very long train of thought, and he will revisit key issues over and over again in His letters.  Being inspired he will not contradict himself on anything he has said earlier.

What do we learn about the Holy Spirit from I Corinthians ?
1.        A clear communicator
2.        The source for the Churches equipping
3.        The source for the Church unity
4.        The determining force of the Churches gifting
5.            The Power source for believers  so we may glorify God
To tackle tough verses and verses everyone has an opinion on what it says; Best tool is simply to go back to the text itself: to see what it plainly states.

Book: 1 Corinthians 14
Have one person Read out loud:

Read 1 Corinthians 14:1-7
Many point to verse two as confirmation that tongue speaking is a prayer language only
a man’s spirit and God understand

Is that what the text of these seven verses state?  No  I will concede verse two is not

easy to understand.

Look at all of the verses what words are emphasized?

Verse three Paul says all gifts that would include tongues were to Edify, exhort and
console.  Can you do that in an unknown language?

Verse 5 edifying is better than tongues because all can understand

6&7 Emphasize a distinctive sound

All that in mind do you think form what Paul has taught us earlier, is he promoting

speaking in an unknown prayer language?

What is the plain emphasis?

Prophecy, revelation, exhortation are what we are to seek strengthens the whole church.

Read 1 Corinthians 14:8-12

Look again in verses 8-10 is Paul advocate confusion or understanding?

In 11 and 12 does Paul say we should seek to edify self or the church?

A prayer language only you know would that most likely edify self or the church?

Read 1 Corinthians 14:13-17
Why would there be a need for an interpreter?

The words Paul uses are of a Specific language; so the interpreter could make

plain to all the Word of God.  In fact if we go back 1 Corinthians 12:9 where it

states “to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,”  This pharse can

literally be translated families of languages, plus this harmonizes Acts 2

statements on tongues!  (Solving Church Problims Tom Friskney pg 203)

Read 1 Corinthians 14:18-25-

Why was Paul thankful he could speak more tongues than the Corinthian Church?

Paul was a missionary this spiritual gift allowed him to speak in multiple languages in

his missionary Journeys What would Paul rather do than speak in a tongue?  Instruct

others NASB  NIV

Maturity and being infants is it not what Paul here is comparing?

What makes one Mature?  What is immature?

Mature is speaking in a way that brings understanding to all,  Immaturity is using

your gift even when it brings no value to anyone else!

To this point Paul has been tackling the issue of the misuse of Spiritual Gifts.

Spiritual gift are meant to Edify, instruct and encourage everyone.  If you use a

spiritual gift and it is only for your benefit you are still immature!

Next section is about Improper worship: let the text speak to you.  What I see

Paul doing is explaining that improper worship brings misunderstanding of who

God is, just as a misuse of spiritual gifts.

Read: 1 Corinthians 14:26-28

What picture do you have of a Corinthian worship service?

No order; people interrupting each other confusion!  So much activity and noise

almost no listening to God?  If you are speaking can you hear God?

Read 1 Corinthians 14:29-35
Who can control the use of one’s spiritual gift?

I can-I know I have the gift evangelism and exhortation.  Yet there is times when
my spirit wants to cry out, but if I would it would create confusion.  Should I speak
or be silent?  Silent!

Is Paul advocating for loser order or a more subdued worship?
What is a universal sign of Gifts, worship and service that honors God

Verse 33 Peace-Order-shalom!
Understand once again Paul is saying abuse of worship, leads to chaos and He
desires what in the Corinthian church?

Read 1 Corinthians 14:36-40

There is a division as to whether this subject is about the women’s role in the church or an extension of worship issues?

What were the women doing wrong?

Interrupting, speaking up and adding to confusion

Why is 40 key to the whole passage whether it is about Spiritual Gifts, worship or
roles of men and women?

This study we are not going to discuss the women’s role in the Church Next time

But what is the underlying theme of the whole chapter?

Everything should be done in a orderly and fitting way!

Look:  What did we learn about the Holy Spirit in I Corinthians?
1.        A clear communicator
2.        The source for the Churches equipping
3.        The source for the Church unity
4.        The determining force of the Churches gifting
5.            The Power source for believers  so we may glorify God
Did Paul in 1 Corinthians 14 contradict himself?
What evidence in 1 Corinthians is there that tongues was an unknown language only known by the God and the speaker?
None

Took: What are some issues in our current church that promote Chaos and not order?
What are some practices in the church that brings division and not unity?
What can we do to make the church more orderly and fitting?

BE STILL

Snippet

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.  Mother Teresa

Scripture

He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Psalms 46:9-11 NIV

Be still and know that I'm with you
Be still and know that I am here
Be still and know that I'm with you
Be still, be still, and know
When darkness comes upon you
And covers you with fear and shame
Be still and know that I'm with you
And I will say your name
If terror falls upon your bed
And sleep no longer comes
Remember all the words I said
Be still, be still, and know
And when you go through the valley
And the shadow comes down from the hill
If morning never comes to be
Be still, be still, be still
If you forget the way to go
And lose where you came from
If no one is standing beside you
Be still and know I am
Be still and know that I'm with you
Be still and know I am

Sentence Prayer

Father;
When the World tells us
We are what we do with
Our activity, acumen or achievement,

Let us learn
We are what we with our silence.

When the world tells us
We are what we do with
Our spending power, selling power, or our power of speech,

Let us learn
We are what we do with our silence.

When the world tells us
To drown the silent suffering of others
With indifference or noise,
Or to forget the art of stillness even in the storm,

Let us learn
We are what we do with our silence.

When the world tells us
To rush in where angels fear to tread,

Let us learn that angels listen first
Before they take a step
For the voice of God in the silence
Amen
