Daily Dose of God's Word For July 6th

Daily Dose of God's Word For 7-6

Memory Verse: For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21

Read: Those whose theological systems are built around a belief in the continuation of miraculous gifts, such as the Charismatic Movement and the Word of Faith movement, tend to elevate experience above the Word of God as the basis for their beliefs.  For more data on this, see the works by John MacArthur called Charismatic Chaos and Strange Fire.  Such an appeal to experience is invalid and deceiving; see Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 13:25-28.

Second, in these contexts, the Holy Spirit is often elevated above Jesus Christ, contrary to the Spirit’s stated mission.  See John 16:14-15.

Pray

Come, Holy Spirit. Renew in me the gift of reverence so that I may express my awe at your greatness in my thoughts, words, and actions.

Daily Dose of God's Word July 4th

Daily Dose of God's Word For 7-4

Memory Verse:For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21

Read: Paul seems to have been unable to perform healing miracles at the end of his ministry.  The evidence for this would be the workers who helped Paul but who are mentioned as being sick, namely, Epaphroditus, Philippians 2:25ff.; Timothy, 1 Timothy 5:23; and Trophimus, 2 Timothy 4:20.  These are men Paul failed to heal, though it would have been to Paul’s advantage to have healed them.

Come, Holy Spirit. Renew in me the gift of reverence so that I may express my awe at your greatness in my thoughts, words, and actions.
