AMERICAN SOIL

Snippet

[N]either the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of

a people  whose manners are universally corrupt.

(Samuel Adams Source: William V. Wells, The Life and Public Service of Samuel Adams (Boston: Little, Brown, & Co., 1865), Vol. I, p. 22, quoting from a political essayby Samuel Adams published in The Public Advertiser, 1749.)

Scripture

I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And I find knowledge and discretion.
 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverted mouth, I hate.
Counsel is mine and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, power is mine. Proverbs 8:12-14 NASB

Song
American Soil-R Swift

Everybody got question, what’s going on in this world
They say the youth is crazy, we better pray for em, but they just walk the path we lay for em
So let me talk about it for a minute, you with me!
In 99 shots rains out of Columbine, move to 2005 ten shot from Red Lake massacre, and in 07 Success Tech in Cleveland, and more that 34 High school shooting between them,
And everybody wants a reason, to the madness, but what we sow in the past is what we reaping, I know its hard to grasp, or even fertilize, so let’s travel back the way is started at
When atheist delusional, the hate for God fuel, and push their view that praying at school is unconstitutional
Evil had them fool, Supreme Court ruled in favor of bible and prayer was taken out of schools
We basically told God to leave and let us speak, at least in our schools we don’t need the discrepancies
In other words we told Him to back off, but only if we knew what we ask for
Now fast-forward, back towards this day and age, mass students is fill with dismay and rage
Run up on campus and spray it with AK’s, and now all of sudden we want to stop and pray
And it’s a shame if this is what it takes, other than tragedies God doesn’t have a place
But we forsake Him regardless, and see less of God’s grace for the sake of being Godless
You know it’s easy to point at the young people and say it’s just them
They say the youth is crazy, we better pray for em, but they just walk the path that we lay for em
But they just got it from us, this country it’s been like that, from the beginning, could it be that whatever gets America spoil, till some spill blood on American soil
This is America the land of the free, home of the brave
Build while breaking the back bones to slaves, Africans Natives, be slanged and raped
Behold the foundation of the great place, consume by hate and depreciation life
Took us from civil war to the lack of civil right, right?
Right here is what makes it tragic, sin is embedded in our fabric
That’s why the things the we love is the things God hate, things God love is what we negate
I think it’s safe to say, I mean we think God is cool but we hate His ways
Just check our air ways, our media content is nonsense, look at what we applaud, everything but God
Violence, sex outside the proper context, doing it how feel as long as its good on your conscious
Politicians are slic, they will say almost anything to work over the church votes to persuade and vote
People that leads us, trying to take God out of the pledge of legions
That is till when we are face with terrorism, now we want God heroism
And they say why God let bad things happen when its good people, that is the point there is no good in us
I’m just saying, you know its crazy how we treat God, we always place last
They say the youth is crazy, we better pray for em, but they just walk the path that we lay for em
But they just got it from us, this country it’s been like that, from the beginning, could it be that whatever gets America spoil, till some spill blood on American soil
You know we always expect God to come and protect us, we constantly telling him to back off
Get out from our face, we don’t need you
Its crazy right? But we expect him to step in when something bad happens
The questions is always where is God? He was always here where were you?
This is just something to think about
They say the youth is crazy, we better pray for em, but they just walk the path that we lay for em

Sentence Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and
guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good,," but that is exactly what we
have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We confess:

We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.
We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism.
We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of your will. I ask it in the Name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.  (Pastor Joe Wright)

EVIL

Snippet

There were so many victims of Crime, she thought.  So many friends, relatives, and family members on the periphery of evil.     C.J. Box The Highway St. Martins press pg 250 2013

Scripture

keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies.
Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

and his ears are attentive to their cry; Psalms 34:13-15

"Copperhead Road" STEVE EARLE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvaEJzoaYZk

Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad
He headed up the holler with everything he had
It's before my time but I've been told
He never came back from Copperhead Road
Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night
Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road
I volunteered for the Army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in Vietnam
And I came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico
I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road
Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road

Sentence Prayer

Father:
When evil ones try to knife me in the back,
    make them look foolish.
Frustrate all those
who are plotting my downfall and your kingdoms downfall.
Make Evil One like cinders in a high wind,
with God’s angel working the bellows.
Make their road lightless and mud-slick,
with God’s angel on their tails.
Out of sheer cussedness they set a trap to catch me;
for no good reason they dug a ditch to stop me.
Surprise them with your ambush—
catch Evil doers in the very trap they set,
the disaster they planned for me.  Amen

WANDERER

Snippet

To belong nowhere is a blessing and a curse, like any kind of freedom.”
― Leah Stewart, The Myth of You and Me

Scripture

Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”  Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear. Genesis 4:11-13 NIV

Song
"Hopeless Wanderer" Mumford & Sons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ptM0B4tcWM

You heard my voice I came out of the woods by choice
Shelter also gave their shade
But in the dark I have no name
So leave that click in my head
And I will remember the words that you said
Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart
But I was sure we could see a new start
So when your hope's on fire
But you know your desire
Don't hold a glass over the flame
Don't let your heart grow cold
I will call you by name
I will share your road
But hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
And hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
I wrestled long with my youth
We tried so hard to live in the truth
But do not tell me all is fine
When I lose my head, I lose my spine
So leave that click in my head
And I won't remember the words that you said
You brought me out from the cold
Now, how I long, how I long to grow old
So when your hope's on fire
But you know your desire
Don't hold a glass over the flame
Don't let your heart grow cold
I will call you by name
I will share your road
But hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
And hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I'm under
I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I'm under
The skies I'm under

Sentence Prayer

Father:
We have all wandered from your ways.
Teach me to love the skies I’m under
And my own skin.
Help me to know the
Only rest for man is to love

You.  Amen

BOTTLE OR BIBLE?

Snippet

“First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you.”― F. Scott Fitzgerald

Scripture

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Song
Bottle & My Bible Highway 55

Should I call on the Angels, should I call on Jim Beam
Whatever they can do, to get me through, don’t matter much to me
Well I’m not surprised she left me, but it hurts to see her gone
I guess our love, wasn’t strong enough, to right all her wrongs
So do I lean on the lesson from Sunday School
Or unscrew this top and drink away these blues
Every man I know comes to this place
Where it seems so hard to stand and turn the page
I’ve played the fool before in this ole’ game
But somehow losing her just ain’t the same
It’s a matter of salvation and survival
When I reach for a bottle and my Bible
When you feel the rock of ages, has landed square on you
Take the peace you find, within your mind, whether Psalms or 90 proof
In one hand is a victory, in the other I know I’ll lose
But when you want to hurt, even the Written Words, can make it hard to choose,
The Good Book says my soul’s already bought
So tonight can I drink away these thoughts
Every man I know comes to this place
Surrounded by a hell painted with an angel’s face
I don’t want to play the fool in this ole’ game
So tonight I’ll let the whiskey numb the pain
I know its wrong and I’m not standing in denial
But tonight I’ll need a bottle and my Bible
Tomorrow I’ll get up and leave this place
And I’ll lean upon His promise and His grace
But tonight I just can’t stand to feel the pain
So I’ll float this whiskey river far away
And in the morning I’ll pray God for my revival
But tonight I need a bottle and my Bible
Yeah, tonight I’ll need a bottle and my Bible

Sentence Prayer

Holy Spirit
May I not be inebriated with spirits that
Lead me to walk away from the Kingdom of God
Instead may I be drunk on Your presence
Being led to submit to the building of God’s

Kingdom in my heart Amen

PRAY

Snippet

Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God. We know not what prayer can do. C.H. Spurgeon

Scripture

Always be joyful. 17 Pray continually, 18 and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NCV

Song
Pray Sanctus Real
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nGvKZcLfOw

I bow my head to pray, I don't know what to say
I'm not sure how to fix the things I'm dealing with
I'm in a desperate place, I need to share the weight
But I just don't know how, to let it all pour out
Though I'm silent, my heart is crying
Cause I was made to come to You
So I pray
God I need You more than words can say
Right here in this moment
You know my heart, You know my need
You know every part of me
So even if it's just to speak Your name
I'm gonna pray
I failed to find the time, but You've been calling out
I let the days go by as if I could live without
But it's gotta be here now, I won't be pulled away
Cause it's just You and I, so let the world around us fade
As I pray
God I need You more than words can say
Right here in this moment
You know my heart, You know my need
You know every part of me
So even if it's just to speak Your name
I'm gonna pray
I'm gonna pray
(Father)
Will You meet me here right now?
(Father)
I surrender, lay it down
(Father)
And every time I close my eyes
I know that I was made
To lift my hands and pray
I lift my hands and pray
You know my heart, You know my need
And every single part of me
So even if it's just to speak Your name
I'm gonna pray
I'm gonna pray
You know my heart, You know my need
You know every part of me
More than words, You are my life
Take it as an offering

Sentence Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.

Amen.

VALLEY

Snippet

And if you are faithful in Babylon, God will bless you in Jerusalem  (Mark Batterson The Wild Goose Chase Multnomah press 2008 pg 40)

Scripture

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
 they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.  Psalms 84:5-7 NIV

Song
From this Valley Civil Wars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btcGAAahSTs

Oh, the desert dreams of a river
that will run down to the sea
like my heart longs for an ocean
to wash down over me.
Oh, won't you take me from this valley
to that mountain high above?
I will pray, pray, pray
until I see your smiling face.
I will pray, pray, pray
to the one I love.
Oh, the outcast dreams of acceptance,
just to find pure love's embrace
like an orphan longs for his mother.
May you hold me in your grace.
Won't you take me from this valley
to that mountain high above?
I will pray, pray, pray
until I see your smiling face.
I will pray, pray, pray
to the one I love.
Oh, the caged bird dreams of a strong wind
that will flow 'neath her wings.
Like a voice longs for a melody,
oh, Jesus carry me.
Won't you take me from this valley
to that mountain high above?
I will pray, pray, pray
until I see your smiling face.
I will pray, pray, pray
to the one I love.
I will pray, pray, pray
until I see your smiling face.
I will pray, pray, pray
to the one I love.

Sentence Prayer

May the Peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you;
May he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm:
May he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you;

May he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.  (Common Prayer A Liturgy For Ordinary Radicals Zondervan pg 399 2010)

I NEED YOU

Snippet

God rewards those who seek Him. Not those who seek doctrine of religion or systems or creeds. Many settle for these lesser passions, but the reward goes to those who settle for nothing less than Jesus himself. And what is the reward? What awaits those who seek Jesus? Nothing short of the heart of Jesus.” Max Lucado

Scripture

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
 Sing the praises of the Lord, enthroned in Zion;
proclaim among the nations what he has done.  Psalms 9:9-11 NIV

Song
Matt Maher Lord, I need You
"Lord, I Need You"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuvfMDhTyMA

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the One that guides my heart
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus, You're my hope and stay
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
You're my one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Sentence Prayer

In your mercy, receive us, Lord: and give us grace to cling to you.
