The Daily Dose Of God October 23

Memory Verse; The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, Psalms 102

We pilgrims walk the tightrope between earth and heaven, feeling trapped in time, yet with eternity beating in our hearts. Our unsatisfied sense of exile is not to be solved or fixed while here on earth. Our pain and longings make sure we will never be content, but that’s good: it is to our benefit that we do not grow comfortable in a world destined for decay.  Joni Eareckson Tada Heaven; your real home pg 112

Lord, within your community we are strengthened to persevere, empowered to proclaim your truth, and shaped to wait on you. Teach us anew what we can learn from other faithful brothers and sisters who serve you in their particular ways of worship and proclamation. Amen. (Commonprayer.net)

Memory Verse; The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, Psalms 102

Stop measuring days by degree of productivity and start experiencing them by degree of presence.  Alan Watts

Lord, I've done a lot this week. Give me grace to step away from my work. Help me be present to your presence as it shows up in the gifts of rest, food & family.

May the next 24 hrs be marked by unhurried delight.

Free me from the compulsion to produce.

Amen (A Sabbath Prayer from @richvillodas)

Memory Verse; The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

1 Thessalonians 4:1-12, Psalms 101

Probably the greatest tragedy of the church throughout it's long and checkered history has been it's constant tendency to conform to the prevailing culture instead of developing a Christian counter-culture. John Stott

Father of Lights, too bright for any human eye to behold, blind us to the neon seduction of this age, and grant us a vision of your splendor. Fill our hearts with faith for today, hope for tomorrow, & love for one another as we enter your gates to taste & see that you are good.  David Cassidy (@DPCassidyTKC)

The Daily Dose Of God October 20

Memory Verse; The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

1 Thessalonians 2:17-3, Psalms 100

Sometimes celebrating, enjoying, and laughing seem almost inappropriate in a world as broken as ours. We look around and see panic on the faces of everyone we see. Tragedies become ordinary. How, in good conscience, can we laugh and celebrate and eat pizza? I believe we must celebrate--because celebration is one of the most effective weapons we have against the darkness of our day. The real grief of the state of our world is the pervasive fear that settles in our hearts.  Sally Clarkson, The Lifegiving Table

God of Resurrection and Maker of all, Make us increase and abound in love for one another and for all, so that You may establish our hearts blameless in holiness before You at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all those he has cleansed of their sin. God of peace, sanctify us. (Adah Hutchcraft)

Memory Verse; The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

1 Thessalonians 2:1-16, Psalms 99

Some days I am not sure if my faith is riddled with doubt, or whether, graciously, my doubt is riddled with faith. And yet I continue to live in a world the way a religious person lives in the world; I keep living in a world that I know to be enchanted, and not left alone. I doubt; I am uncertain; I am restless, prone to wander. And yet glimmers of holy keep interrupting my gaze.

 Lauren Winner

Lord, you have brought us in safety to this new day. Preserve us now by your mighty power that we might not fall into sin nor be overcome by adversity, and in all that we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose, through -Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (commonprayer.net)

Memory Verse; The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

1 Thessalonians 1, Psalms 98

We imagine salvation (and hospitality) arriving in pomp and circumstance and social influence, not shared through common means and common people. Yet like most offerings (the widow’s mite, a young boy’s loaves, and fishes), when small and specific offerings are given, they are first broken, and then miraculously they are multiplied. God’s economy is not ours.  Ashley Hales, Finding Holy in the Suburbs

O Savior, thank you for the friends who carried us to you when we could not walk on our own. Thank you for your word of mercy and transforming grace. We confess that our liberated feet have often strayed from your path; bring us home to your peace in the haven of your embrace. Amen.  David Cassidy (@DPCassidyTKC)

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. Eden Ahbez

I lay my head to rest,

and in doing so,

lay at your feet

the faces I have seen,

the voices I have heard,

the words I have spoken,

the hands I have shaken,

the service I have given,

the joys I have shared,

the sorrows revealed,

I lay them at your feet,

and in doing so

lay my head to rest.
