A Prayer for the Anniversary of 9/11
by the Rev. Jeremy Pridgeon

O God, our hope and refuge,
in our distress we come quickly to you.
Shock and horror of that tragic day have subsided,
replaced now with an emptiness,
a longing for an innocence lost.
We come remembering those who lost their lives
in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.
We are mindful of the sacrifice of public servants
who demonstrated the greatest love of all
by laying down their lives for friends.
We commit their souls to your eternal care
and celebrate their gifts to a fallen humanity.
We come remembering
and we come in hope,
not in ourselves, but in you.
As foundations we once thought secure have been shaken,
we are reminded of the illusion of security.

In commemorating this tragedy,
we give you thanks for your presence
in our time of need
and we seek to worship you in Spirit and in truth,
our guide and our guardian. Amen.

Daily Dose of God's Word For September 10th

Daily Dose of God's Word For 9-10

Memory Verse: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14

1 Samuel 13:1-15

You see, rebellion, and the disobedience it causes, keeps us from having the power of God that's available to us as Christians. Joyce Meyer

Pray

Father, rebuild this house upon your rock.
For America labors in vain.
As surely as Your benevolent fingers hold together the fabric of the universe, it is by Your grace and Your grace alone that a nation in rebellion can endure.
We are a nation in rebellion.
How, then, shall we endure?
For You are just.
And Your justice demands judgment.
We have entered judgment.
This is just.
We have sown seeds of wickedness, Lord Jesus.
And for this we repent.
We confess our national sins and entreat Your forgiveness. We confess our arrogance. We confess our selfishness. We confess that we have broken – and continue to break – the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God. We have rejected Your laws, embraced our own fallen impulses and called them laws. Daily Dose of God's Word For September 8th

Daily Dose of God's Word For 9-8

Memory Verse: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14

 Romans 10

God's salvation is available to all. This is a bold statement. We err if we hear it as anthropology, as a claim that all people are about the same, or as a maxim that "a person's a person, no matter how small" (that's not Paul, but Horton Hears a Who!). Rather, Paul makes a statement about God: God has made salvation near to all.  But someone must tell them of Jesus!

Pray

Lord, help us not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Give us a new imagination so that we might live in ways that do not compute to the logic of materialism and militarism. Make us into holy nonconformists so that we might see the kingdoms of this world transformed into your glorious kingdom. Amen.
