The Daily Dose of God August 28

Memory Verse; Adonai is my portion and my cup.

You cast my lot.  My boundary lines fall in pleasant places

—surely my heritage is beautiful. Psalms 16:6 TLV

Romans 4-5:11 Psalms 47

The good news of the resurrection of Jesus is not that we shall die and go home to be with Him, but that He has risen and comes home with us, bringing all of His hungry, naked, thirsty, sick brother prisoners with Him.  Clarence Jordan

Faithful Father, Help us not to worry about things that might happen, but rather rely in faith upon the One Who fights for us. Thank You for Christ the conqueror Who goes before us, stands beside us, abides within us, and whose goodness and mercy follow us. In the Name of Christ, amen. (Adah Hutchcraft)

By the grace of God, (may) we rise anew,

hearts open in Morning Prayer:

For this day Thou hast made,

  we lift thanks and praise—

    Alleluia, alleluia!

Replace our judgment with humility,

  redeem our bitterness with mercy.

Sanctify, sustain, send us

... to live love.  Amen. (Virtual Abbey)

Catch up Day Psalms 43

It is true that the materialistic society, the so-called culture that has evolved under the tender mercies of capitalism, has produced what seems to be the ultimate limit of this- worldliness. And nowhere, except perhaps in the analogous society of pagan Rome, has there ever been such a flowering of cheap and petty and disgusting lusts and vanities as in the world of capitalism, where there is no evil that is not fostered and encouraged for the sake of making money. We live in a society whose whole policy is to excite every nerve in the human body and keep it at the highest pitch of artificial tension, to strain every human desire to the limit and to create as many new desires and synthetic passions as possible, in order to cater to them with the products of our factories and printing presses and movie studios and all the rest. Thomas Merton, The Seven Storey Mountain.

Although I am in the wilderness it is not all briars and barrenness. I have bread from heaven, streams from the rock, light by day, fire by night, thy dwelling place, and Thy mercy seat. (excerpt from Valley of Vision)

Catch up Day Psalms 42

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner, or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out. Mitch Albom

Father in Heaven, In times of silence, we will keep on praying. When all hope seems lost, still our hope is in You.  In times of uncertainty, we are certain of Your faithfulness. When we cannot see, still we will trust You. When we do not understand, still we know Who holds us. You are our confidence, comfort, and joy. We shall not be moved though all else is shaken, for You have placed us in Christ. You keep us as we put our trust in You. For this we humbly thank You. In Christ's Name, amen.  (Adah Hutchcraft)

Acts 28:17-30 Psalms 41

Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything.  Maybe, it's unbecoming everything that really isn't you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.  Paul Coelho

Lord, you have conquered death and triumphed over evil. There is nothing left for us to fear. Put us to work on this earth, striving for the kingdom in everything we do. Let us die to ourselves each day that we might find ourselves made new in you. Amen. (Commonprayer.net)
