Rhinestone Cowboy

Rhinestone Cowboy
Snippet

You must pay for everything in this world one way and another. There is nothing free except the Grace of God. You cannot earn that or deserve it.” Charles Portis, True Grit

Scripture

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7,8

Song
Rhinestone Cowboy By Glen Campbell
https://youtu.be/8kAU3B9Pi_U

I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train
That's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' card and letters from people I don't even know….

Sentence Prayer

Father; may Your Holy Spirit; open my eyes to the areas I have compromised in. And the strength to return to Jesus my Lord, Savior and Shepherd  Amen

The People

The People

Snippet

SPEAKING OF COLUMBUS
If you kill one person, you get death.
If you kill a group of people, due to a white collar crime, you get a pathetic little fine!
If you kill millions, you get a national holiday!
—ALINA MORELLI

Scripture

‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
    and you have not noticed?’
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
    and exploit all your workers.

Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.

Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?

Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Isaiah 58:3-8 NIV

Song
The Ballad Of Ira Hayes
Johnny Cash
https://youtu.be/DjTHxf8l7Qc

[CHORUS:]
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Gather round me people there's a story I would tell
About a brave young Indian you should remember well
From the land of the Pima Indian
A proud and noble band
Who farmed the Phoenix valley in Arizona land

Down the ditches for a thousand years
The water grew Ira's peoples' crops
'Till the white man stole the water rights
And the sparklin' water stopped

Now Ira's folks were hungry
And their land grew crops of weeds
When war came, Ira volunteered
And forgot the white man's greed

[CHORUS:]
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

There they battled up Iwo Jima's hill,
Two hundred and fifty men
But only twenty-seven lived to walk back down again

And when the fight was over
And when Old Glory raised
Among the men who held it high
Was the Indian, Ira Hayes

[CHORUS:]
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Ira returned a hero
Celebrated through the land
He was wined and speeched and honored; Everybody shook his hand

But he was just a Pima Indian
No water, no crops, no chance
At home nobody cared what Ira'd done
And when did the Indians dance

[CHORUS:]
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Then Ira started drinkin' hard;
Jail was often his home
They'd let him raise the flag and lower it
like you'd throw a dog a bone!

He died drunk one mornin'
Alone in the land he fought to save
Two inches of water in a lonely ditch
Was a grave for Ira Hayes

[CHORUS:]
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Yeah, call him drunken Ira Hayes
But his land is just as dry
And his ghost is lyin' thirsty
In the ditch where Ira died

Sentence Prayers

Hold on to what is good,
Even if it's a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it's a tree that stands by itself.
SUPPORTHold on to what you must do,
Even if it's a long way from here.
Hold on to your life,
Even if it's easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
Even if someday I'll be gone away from you.

COST OF LIVING

Cost of Living

Snippet

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular Kathleen Norris

Scripture

Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. Matthew 10;28,29

The Cost of Living Don Henley

Some folks don't like workin' hard
Some folks don't like rain
Some folks love to tell you
All about their aches and pains
Me, I take the hand I'm dealt
And I play it as it lays
It's the cost of living
And everyone pays

You can't live in memories
Of all your golden yesterdays
Or spend your whole life grieving
For the one that got away
Common sense says "let her go"
But your heart disobeys
It's the cost of living
And everyone pays

Blue shadows falling all around me
Still I don't regret a single day

I look in the mirror now
I see that time can be unkind
But I know every wrinkle
And I earned every line
So, wear it like a royal crown
When you get old and gray
It's the cost of living
And everyone pays
It's the cost of living
And everyone pays

Sentence Prayer

Father:

Seventy years are given to us!
    Some even live to eighty.

But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble;
soon they disappear, and we fly away.

Who can comprehend the power of your anger?
Your wrath is as awesome as the fear you deserve.

Teach us to realize the brevity of life,
so that we may grow in wisdom.  Amen

VETERANS!

Veterans

Snippet

We should remember that the Declaration of Independence is not merely a historical document. It is an explicit recognition that our rights derive not from the King of England, not from the judiciary, not from government at all, but from God. The keystone of our system of popular sovereignty is the recognition, as the Declaration acknowledges, that 'all men are created equal' and 'endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.' Religion and God are no alien to our system of government, they're integral to it. MARK LEVIN

Scripture

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. PSALMS 27:1-4 KJV

Song
God, Family And Country Craig Morgan
https://youtu.be/fsdM9HyvYlY

He grew up in a time,
When a third-grade education,
Was all the school you needed,
To work the family farm.
He'd take time off on Sunday,
Him and all his family,
warm a pew,
And give thanks to the Lord.

There was no gray, only black and white.
Didn't need no-one to tell him,
What was wrong or right.
'Cause he had God, Family, and Country.

He set aside his plow,
In early 1940,
Said goodbye to his small town,
And put on the Army green.
Hard Times on the front lines,
Writin' letters on wet paper,
Not one word about the awful things he'd seen.

His was a generation,
That answered without question.
They knew they had to win,
'Cause they were fightin' for...
God, Family, and Country.

On the coffee table,
Sits the family Bible,
Where just last year he added,
A little boy to the family tree.

There's the folded flag they gave us,
On the day he left us.
But the thing that I remember most,
Is the way that he...

Believed...

In God, Family, and Country...

Ohhh, we've got God...

Family...

And Country……

Sentence Prayer

Father;

We just celebrated veterans day a yearly reminder that freedom is never free.Thank you for the heroic veterans of this great republic.Tragically last night we were reminded that evil and tyranny is alive and well.  May the lives senselessly taken in Paris galvanize patriots in every country to destroy ISIS, with liberty and faith.  Evil will never disappear until you come again. Come Lord Jesus Come quickly!  Amen  R.M.

Daddy Doesn't Pray

Snippet

We should begin to pray before we kneel down and we should not cease when we rise up. C.H. Spurgeon

Scripture

Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. Genesis 5:23,24

Song
Daddy Does not Pray Anymore
https://youtu.be/MJYgJfRj0Do

Daddy doesn’t pray anymore
guess he’s finished talkin to the lord
He used to fold his hands
and bow his head down to the floor
daddy doesn’t pray anymore

I remember even when the times where bad
he’d thank Jesus for everything he had
a good wife and 3 children
the food upon our plates
yeah everything was right when he said grace

Daddy doesn’t pray anymore
guess he’s finished talkin to the lord
He used to fold his hands
and bow his head down to the floor
daddy doesn’t pray anymore

There was a time when we didn’t get along
cause I thought I was right and he was wrong
Still when I'd lay down at night
I'd hear him get down on his knees
and say a little prayer for me

Daddy doesn’t pray anymore
guess he’s finished talkin to the lord
He used to fold his hands
and bow his head down to the floor
daddy doesn’t pray anymore

Today I followed daddy down to church
listened to the preacher reads Gods words
and we sang his favorite hymn but daddy didn't make a sound
and this afternoon we'll put him in the ground

Daddy doesn’t pray anymore
I guess he’s finally walking with the lord
He use to fold his hands
and bow his head down to the floor
daddy doesn’t pray anymore

Sentence Prayer

Father;

before my final amen

may I learn to walk closely with You.

Amen

THIS OLD HOUSE

SNIPPETT

Stuart Hamblen who wrote “This Old House”, underwent a religious conversion at a Billy Graham crusade in Los Angeles, and was soon fired from his radio program after refusing to do beer commercials. Graham called Hamblen's conversion "the turning point" in the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's ministry, where before Hamblen accepted Christ the crowds were rather small.
SCRIPTURE

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,  2 Corinthians 5:1,2

SONG
THIS OLD HOUSE by STUART HAMBLEN
https://youtu.be/0WhLhF12TBE

This ole house once knew my children
This ole house once knew my wife
This ole house was home and comfort
As we fought the storms of life
This ole house once rang with laughter
This ole house heard many shouts

Now she trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about

Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no window pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

This ole house is a-gettin' shaky
This ole house is a-gettin' old
This ole house lets in the rain
This ole house lets in the cold
On my knees I'm gettin' chilly
But I feel no fear or pain
'Cause I see an angel peekin'
Through a broken window pane

Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no window pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

Now this ole house is afraid of thunder
This ole house is afraid of storms
This ole house just groans and trembles
When the night wind flings its arms
This ole house is a-gettin' feeble
This ole house is a-needin' paint
Just like me it's tuckered out
But I'm a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no window pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

And my old hound dog lies a sleepin'
He don't know I'm gonna leave
Else he'd wake up by the fire place
And he'd sit down, howl and grieve
But my huntin' days are over
Ain't gonna hunt the coon no more
Gabriel done brought in my chariot
When the wind blew down the door

Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no window pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm a-gettin' ready to meet the saints
I'm ready to meet the saints

SENTENCE PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Make me wise taking careful aim at every opportunity, for the lion of evil prowls about.

Jesus,

Keep me from foolishly snubbing your will of eternal life.  But may I repent of my sins-seeking You, confessing the gospel and immersing sinful self into your propitiation.

Holy Spirit

Keep me far from the spirits of this world, Instead becoming inebriated on Your faith, hope and Love.  Amen
