Daily Dose For November 27

Memory Verse; Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Song 2:8-3:11 Psalms 145

“The thing I’m  most grateful for right now is elastic waistbands.” Unknown

O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry. When I have work, help me to remember the jobless. When I have a home, help me to remember those who have no home at all. When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer. And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency, bestir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help, by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen.

Daily Dose For November 26 Thanksgiving

Memory Verse; Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Song 1:1-2:7 Psalms 144

“God gave us our relatives; thank God we can choose our friends.”  Ethel Watts Mumford

This Thanksgiving, let those of us who have much and those who have little gather at the welcoming table of the Lord. At this blessed feast, may rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve on another and to walk together in God's gracious world. With thankful hearts, we praise our God who like a loving parent denies us no good thing.

Daily Dose For November 25

Memory Verse; Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Catch up day. Psalms 143

“Though I am grateful for the blessings of wealth, it hasn’t changed who I am. My feet are still on the ground. I’m just wearing better shoes.” Oprah Winfrey

For flowers that bloom about our feet, Father, we thank Thee.

For tender grass so fresh, so sweet, Father, we thank Thee.

For the song of bird and hum of bee, for all things fair we hear or see,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

For blue of stream and blue of sky, Father, we thank Thee.

For pleasant shade of branches high, Father, we thank Thee.

For fragrant air and cooling breeze, for beauty of the blooming trees,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

For this new morning with its light, Father, we thank Thee.

For rest and shelter of the night, Father, we thank Thee.

For health and food, for love and friends, for everything Thy goodness sends,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

Daily Dose For November 24

Memory Verse; Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Catch up day. Psalms 142

"No one likes pain.  We all want to get rid of it as soon as possible, in any way possible.  But physical pains are usually there for a reason, to tell us something is wrong and needs to be fixed.  Emotional, relational, and societal pains, too, are often indicators that all is not well.  As such, they serve a valuable purpose.  They help us focus.

Lord, keep us from following the gods of pride, stubbornness, vanity, sloth, greed, and comfort that beckon for our allegiance every day. You brought us through the night watches, you who neither slumber nor sleep. We pray to follow you along the path of generosity, humility, and love throughout this day. Amen.(Commonprayer.net)

Daily Dose For November 23

Memory Verse; Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Eccl. 12:9-14 Psalms 141

“Isn’t it odd that Christendom that huge body of humankind that claims spiritual descent from the Jewish carpenter of Nazareth claims to pray to and adore a being who was a prisoner of Roman power, an inmate of the empire’s death row? That the one it considers the personification of the Creator of the Universe was tortured, humiliated, beaten, and crucified on a barren scrap of land on the imperial periphery, at Golgotha, the place of the skull? That the majority of its adherents strenuously support the state’s execution of thousands of imprisoned citizens? That the overwhelming majority of its judges, prosecutors, and lawyers those who condemn, prosecute, and sell out the condemned claim to be followers of the fettered, spat-upon, naked God?” Death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal

Lord, to know you, we must dwell on the reality of your life, not just your death and resurrection. Remind us of our roots in Nazareth, in Galilee, in Capernaum, in Judea, and on Golgotha. Remind us that a servant is no greater than their Master. Amen.(Commonprayer.net)
