Tupperware & Socks

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                         Jesus
Genesis 42:7                                         Zechariah 12:10

Similarities and differences?

I am fixated on a silly post on Facebook; "Remember, if you lose a sock in the dryer, it comes

back as a Tupperware lid that doesn't fit any of your containers.   It's a way of saying, your sins

will come home to roost, isn't it?

In Genesis 42, Jacobs boys are staring at the long lost sock, that doesn't fit.  In Zechariah 12 it

foretells over 500 years into the future, The Tupperware lid that did not fit their container would

be pierced.  And  Israel would mourn for what they had done. Fifty days after the piercing, they

were cut to the heart!

You can not, deal with your sin, shame or failure until you look upon it, accept reality, and then

give it to God.  What in your life has pierced Christ?  Will you foolishly attempt to hide it?  Or

will you intently look at it, confess the wrong, mourn the cost of the wrong, and then come to

God for healing?  Repentance, is not a promise we will do better, it is a promise from God, we

will be forgiven!

Humans

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                                  Jesus
Genesis 42:7                                         John 2:24

Similarities and differences?

Joseph could have revealed his identity to his brothers at once. But Joseph’s last memory of them may well have been staring in horror at their faces as slave traders carried him away. Were his brothers still evil and treacherous, or had they changed over the years? Joseph decided to put them through a few tests to find out.

The Son of God knows all about human nature. Jesus was well aware of the truth of Jeremiah 17:9, which states, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jesus was discerning, and he knew that the faith of some followers was superficial. Some of the same people claiming to believe in Jesus at this time would later yell “Crucify him!” It’s easy to believe when it is exciting and everyone else believes the same way. But keep your faith firm even when it isn’t popular to follow Christ.

Whosoever

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                                    Jesus
Genesis 41:57                                                   Zech 8:23, Rev 22:2

Similarities and differences?

Notice all nations come to Joseph and  Jesus.  God's plan has always

been to have all his child around His dinner table.  Last Sunday, I talked about

Meritocracy an Idea I stole from David Brooks in a New York Times op-ed page.  What is

meritocracy?  Rich and successful people are worth more than poorer and less

successful people.  Jewish people are worth more than the wretched Samaritans.

Christians are worth more than Muslims.  Man is constantly trying to divide between the

insiders and the outsiders.

The life of  Joseph & Jesus taught us. .That whosoever believeth in him should not

perish, but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever

believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world

through him might be saved. John 3:15-17

Lord, help us to see that our well-being is inextricably bound to the well-being of our

neighbor. Our sorrows are shared. Our longings are shared. Our fears are shared. Enable

us also to share compassion, patience, and courage today. Amen. (CommonPrayer.net)

Bow Down

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                     Jesus
Genesis 41:55                                    John 2:5

Similarities and differences?

Egypt and Pharaoh submitted to Joseph, to overcome starvation.  By bowing to Joseph in reality they were bowing to God.  God has placed leaders in authority those over us for our benefit. Joseph is a shadow of the One who all, oneway must bow down to.

Mary submitted to Jesus’ way of doing things. She recognized that Jesus was more than her human son—he was the Son of God. When we bring our problems to Christ, we may think we know how he should take care of them. But he may have a completely different plan. Like Mary, we should submit and allow him to deal with the problem as he sees best.

Satisfy

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                                 Jesus
Genesis 41:54                                               Matthew 15:32-37

Similarities and differences?

Jesus had already fed more than 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish. Here, in a

similar situation, the disciples were again perplexed. How easily we throw up our hands

in despair when faced with difficult situations. Like the disciples, we often forget that if

God has cared for us in the past, he will do the same now. When facing a difficult

situation, remember that God cares for you and trust him to work faithfully again.

Joseph was a reminder of this.  God used a process with Joseph and a miracle with

Jesus, but in both instances, God provided and fed the hungry!  Not certain

what you are hungry or thirsty for, but I do no the One who satisfies.

Parable

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph Jesus
Genesis 41:15.16, 45                         Matthew 13:35

Similarities and differences?

Parables are; "earthly stories with a heavenly meaning."   Joseph's life story was a parable,

foretelling the coming of the Messiah.  Even the marriage to the daughter of Potiphar,

points to Jesus coming to save the Gentiles.

Joseph Carrol writes; "We were created to worship Jesus Christ. We were created for

Him, to become something to Him in order that He might find pleasure in us. But this

demands discipline. This demands self-renunciation. This demands the mortifying of the

flesh. This demands the taking out of our lives everything that does not contribute to the

one great objective."  Joseph Carrol How to Worship Jesus Christ, p. 31.

Every life is a parable that can point to Jesus?  Every life is meant to worship Jesus?  At

this moment are we out running wild?  Or, are we controlling ourselves to live

within God's storyline?
