NEW YEAR

Snippet
Perhaps there is something restorative about a new years walk,

something hopeful in unread visions and new days, precisely

because there is a coming New Day.  Perhaps the hope promised

in new mornings, the assurance of new mercies and new

beginnings, is only a hint of the promise of a certain redemption,

a new earth.  In this higher dream, God is the dreamer,

redeeming worlds, redeeming time; God's redemption is the great

love that prevents us from being consumed.   Unread Visions by

Jill Carattini Daily Slice  Friday
Scripture
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because

his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is

thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore

will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him,

to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both

hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD

Verge of a Miracle
Rich Mullins
http://youtu.be/I_Ta5OxLuRk
Clung to a ball
That was hung in the sky
Hurled into orbit
There You are
Whether you fall down
Or whether you fly
Seems you can never get too far
Someone's waiting to put wings
Upon your flightless heart

You're on the verge of a miracle
Standing there
Oh you're on the verge of a miracle
Just waiting to be believed in
Open your eyes and see
You're on the verge of a miracle

Here in your room
Where nobody can see
Voices are loud
But seldom clear
But beneath the confusion
That's running so deep
There is a promise you must hear
The love that seems so far away
Is standing very near

You're on the verge of a miracle
Standing there
Oh you're on the verge of a miracle
Just waiting to be believed in
Open your eyes and see

When you've played out
Your last chance
And your directions
Have all been lost
When the roads that you look down
Are all dead ends
Look up
You could see if you'd just look up

You're on the verge of a miracle
Standing there
Oh you're on the verge of a miracle
Just waiting to be believed in
Open your eyes and see
You're on the verge of a miracle
Sentence Prayer
Lord our God,
Amid the uncertainties of our human life,
May we pause and draw strength from you,
Trusting in your faithful love.
We ask this through Jesus, you Son,your Lord

RESURRECT

Snippet
Jesus's resurrection is the beginning of God's new project not to

snatch people away from earth to heaven but to colonize earth

with the life of heaven. That, after all, is what the Lord's Prayer is

about.” N.T. Wright, Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven,

the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church

Scripture
Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy

to open the book or to look into it; and one of the elders said to

me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of

Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book

and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:4,5 NASB

Song
God is not Dead News Boys
Let love explode and bring the dead to life
A love so bold to see a revolution somehow

Let love explode and bring the dead to life
A love so bold to bring a revolution somehow

Now I'm lost in Your freedom
In this world I'll overcome

[2x]
My God's not dead
He's surely alive
He's living on the inside
Roaring like a lion

Roaring, He's roaring, roaring like a lion

Let hope arise and make the darkness hide
My faith is dead I need resurrection somehow

Now I'm lost in Your freedom
In this world I'll overcome

[2x]
My God's not dead
He's surely alive
He's living on the inside

Roaring like a lion
Roaring, He's roaring, roaring like a lion
He's roaring, He's roaring

[3x]
Let heaven roar
And fire fall
Come shake the ground
With the sound
Of revival

[4x]
My God's not dead
He's surely alive
He's living on the inside
Roaring like a lion

He's roaring, He's roaring, He's roaring like a lion [2x]

WHO WE ARE

Snippet
We, the unclean, are not just washed; we are in the Holy One
forever. We, the rebellious, are not just pardoned; we are in the
King forever. We, the sad, are not just encouraged; we are in the
Blessed One forever. We, the defeated, are not just empowered;
we are in the Victor forever. We, the confused, are not just
instructed; we are in the Sage forever. This is radical
reconciliation, full provision, an astounding advantage. This is
how the Jesus who lived 2000 years ago becomes our living
Friend and Power today - union with Christ. God announces to us
that He has relocated us in His universe of grace. We are no
longer outside Christ, and now not just before Christ or near
Christ or beneath Christ, but in Christ. Let’s inhale deeply from
this new environment.  Lewis Smedes, Union with Christ,
Eerdmans, www.eerdmans, 1970, p. xi.
Scripture
“So rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all
slander. Like newborn infants, desire the pure spiritual milk, so
that you may grow by it for your salvation, since you have
tasted that the Lord is good. Coming to Him, a living
stone — rejected by men but chosen and valuable to God —
you yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual
house for a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable
to God through Jesus Christ. ” 1 Peter 2:1-5 HCSB

Remember who we are
Pulled us out of darkness
Set above the stars
Remember who we are
Remember who we are
Pulled us out of darkness
Set above the stars
Remember who we are
Some of us may have forgotten
Talking like we ain’t got him
Saved us out of Sodom and Gomorrah
Pulled us out of that horror
Distorted and now were sorted
Separated for the maker
He changed us all
for His glory
So let me talk slowly
articulating His story the Christ
He came and died for the joy
set before him gave his life
for his enemies
While not being a friend of me
Dying on the cross
Looking like this
the end of me
You remember that we was brought
displaying how much it cost
suffering for the lost
Suffering for the searching
while we was lost living life in
the grave
In our place for His Innocence in exchange
What is it we get?
Swear that you wouldn’t do all the things
that you shouldn’t You can stop with the swearing
Your weakness Yeah They’re your good for all your sin
and your failures mistakes weakness He wasn’t refusing
you selfie that look up on your face
Remember who we are
Pulled us out of darkness
Set above the stars
Remember who we are
Remember who we are
Pulled us out of darkness
Set above the stars
Born on Pearl Harbor Daddy named me
Black Warrior so I’m guessing I’m supposed
to be harder using these shoulder pads
as a claim to fame But if you met me in person
You’ll notice the introvertedness trying to find
the meaning of life so determined my conscious telling me
this material isn’t worth it Opening these books
on universalism cus the holy water just wasn’t working
Till he gave me revelation when He opened them curtains
looking up the religion of Madonna thats the Kabala
Did a project on Malcom Checked out Muhammad
Till I got enlightened by the King priest, prophet
understood my life my problems He told me if I gained
the whole world I wouldn’t profit He told me if I
gained the whole world I wouldn’t profit showed me
who I was Showed me who I was meant to be me
A royal priesthood destined for that eternity that’s who I am
I keep on fighting that struggle to know just who I am
I keep pushing because I know that you got the plan
When I get to to my lowest I know it’s you that can
and when I am weak your strong I know that I can stand
Oh Oh Oh Oh
Remember who we are pulled us out of darkness
Set above the stars remember who we are
Remember who we are Pulled us out of darkness
Set above the stars remember who we are
As you came to him, a living stone rejected by men
but in the sight of God chosen and precious you yourselves like
living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a
holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God
Through Jesus Christ.
Sentence Prayer
Lord, with your coming, our lives have a greater demand placed
upon them. Help us learn the art of active, consistent service
while maintaining enough silent space to hear your call. Amen

PEACE

Snippet
God cannot give us a happiness and peace

apart from Himself, because it is not there.

There is no such thing. C. S. Lewis

Scripture

This One will be our peace. Micah 5:5 NASB

Peace
Michael W Smith
http://youtu.be/Vm2T8Xqbt6A
I have come from so far away
Down the road of my own mistakes
In the hope you could hear me pray
Oh Lord Keep me in your reach
How I’ve longed through these wasted years
To outrun all the pain and fear
Turned to stone from my un-cried tears
And now it’s Your grace I seek.
Love wont compromise.
It’s a gift. It’s a sacrifice.
My soul renewed. And my heart released,
In You I’ll find my Peace.
Wondrous child of whom the angels sing.
Know my joy. Feel my suffering.
Shining star make this love you bring so bright.
That I may believe
That my way will not be lost from now on
Till that rivers crossed my soul’s renewed
and my spirit free
In You I’ll find my Peace in You I’ll find my Peace.
Sentence
Almighty God;
Only Your Son Jesus
will bring Peace to my heart

and to mankind.  Amen R.M.

ALMOST THERE

Snippet
And at this day, the blessedness brought to us by Christ cannot

be the subject of our praise, without reminding us, at the same

time, of the distinguished honor which God was pleased to

bestow on Mary, in making her the mother of his Only Begotten

Son.  John Calvin: Commentary on Luke 1:42

Scripture
And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,

and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore

the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.  And

behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived

a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.

For nothing will be impossible with God.”  And Mary said,

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according

to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:35-38

Almost There
Michael W. Smith & Amy Grant
Mary, full of innocence
Carrying the Holy prince
You're almost there, you're almost there
Mother of the Living Word
Trusting in the voice you heard
You're almost there, you're almost there
You're almost where the angels see
Redemption's plan unfolding
All hope is in the Son you'll bear
You're almost there
A lonely road, a willing heart
Pray for strength to do your part
You're almost there, you're almost there
Trust the Father to provide
Bread of heaven prophesied
You're almost there, you're almost there
You're almost where the waiting ends
Delivering the life within
The answered prayer, Emmanuel
You're almost there
You're almost where the journey ends
Where death will die and life begins
The answered prayer, Emmanuel
You're almost, almost there

Sentence Prayer

Lord, it sounds so easy to follow you because you only call us to

love.  But love is too much for us!  Overwhelm us with your love

so that our song of praise might continue in patient kindness and

generous support of our neighbors throughout the day.  Amen

RESTLESS

Snippet
Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless
until it finds its rest in thee.”  Augustine of Hippo, The
Confessions of Saint Augustine
Scripture
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In
repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is
your strength, but you would have none of it. Isaiah 30:15

Song
Restless by Switch foot
http://youtu.be/iwqb3sRwAyw
I am the sea on a moonless night,
Calling, falling, slipping tides
I am the leaky, dripping pipes
The endless aching drops of light
I am the raindrop falling down,
Always longing for the deeper ground
I am the broken, breaking seas
Even my blood finds ways to bleed
Even the rivers ways to run
Even the rain to reach the sun
Even my thirsty streams,
Even in my dreams
I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
I’m looking for you
I am the thorn stuck in your side,
I am the one that you left behind,
I am the dried up doubting eyes
Looking for the well that won’t run dry
Running hard for the other side
The world that I’ve always been denied
Running hard for the infinite
With the tears of the saints and hypocrites
Oh blood of black and white and gray
Death and life and night and day
One by one by one
We let our rivers run
I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
Looking for you
I can hear you breathing,
I can hear you leading
More than just a feeling
More than just a feeling
I can feel you reaching
Pushing through the ceiling
'til the final healing
I'm looking for you
Until the sea of glass we meet
At last completed and complete
The tide of tear and pain subside
Laughter drinks them dry
I’ll be waiting
Anticipating
All that I aim for
What I was made for
With every heartbeat
All of my blood bleeds
Running inside me
Looking for you
I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
I'm looking for you
I can feel you breathing
I can feel you leading
More than just a feeling
More than just a feeling
I can feel you reaching
Pushing through the ceiling
'til the final healing
I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you
Sentence Prayer
Jesus;
My burden of sin is too heavy
My pride won’t surrender
My soul knows I must
My being is yours

Let me rest in you.  Amen

CHRISTMAS

Snippet
Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of
kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in
spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.” ― Laura Ingalls
Wilder
Scripture
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which

is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find

the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And

suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly

host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and

on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:11-14 KJV

But it's here at last so mom and dad the waiting's finally done
And you gotta get up ~ you gotta get up ~ you gotta get up
It's Christmas morning
Last night I heard reindeers on my roof
Well you may think I'm exaggerating but I swear I'm tellin' you the truth
And you gotta get up ~ you gotta get up ~ you gotta get up
It's Christmas morning
Did my sister get a baby doll? Did my brother get his bike?
Did I get that red wagon the kind that makes you fly?
Oh I hope there'll be peace on earth
I know there's good will toward men
On account of that Baby born in Bethlehem
Did my sister get her baby doll? Did my brother get his bike?
Did I get that red wagon the kind that makes you fly?
Oh I hope there'll be peace on earth
I know there's good will toward men
On account of that Baby born in Bethlehem

Oh I guess they got carried away in the Christmas candlelight

SILENT NIGHT

Snippet
What a paradox that a babe in a manger should be called mighty! Yet even

as a baby, Jesus Christ revealed power. His birth affected the heavens as

that star appeared. The star affected the Magi, and they left their homes and

made that long journey to Jerusalem. Their announcement shook King Herod

and his court. Jesus' birth brought angels from heaven and simple shepherds

from their flocks on the hillside. Midnight became midday as the glory of the

Lord appeared to men.  Reference: His Name is Wonderful, Christianity

Today. 4, p. 545,

Scripture

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,

and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in

cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest

room available for them.  Luke 2:6-7 NIV

Silent night! holy night!
All is calm all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace!
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night! holy night!
Son of God love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth

Silent night! holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born!

Sentence Prayer
Christ is Coming

Christ has Come

Christ will Come Again
