RESTLESS

Snippet

Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”― Augustine of Hippo, The Confessions of Saint Augustine

Scripture

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. Isaiah 30:15

Restless by Switchfoot

I am the sea on a moonless night,
Calling, falling, slipping tides
I am the leaky, dripping pipes
The endless aching drops of light
I am the raindrop falling down,
Always longing for the deeper ground
I am the broken, breaking seas
Even my blood finds ways to bleed
Even the rivers ways to run
Even the rain to reach the sun
Even my thirsty streams,
Even in my dreams
I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
I’m looking for you
I am the thorn stuck in your side,
I am the one that you left behind,
I am the dried up doubting eyes
Looking for the well that won’t run dry
Running hard for the other side
The world that I’ve always been denied
Running hard for the infinite
With the tears of the saints and hypocrites
Oh blood of black and white and gray
Death and life and night and day
One by one by one
We let our rivers run
I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
Looking for you
I can hear you breathing,
I can hear you leading
More than just a feeling
More than just a feeling
I can feel you reaching
Pushing through the ceiling
'til the final healing
I'm looking for you
Until the sea of glass we meet
At last completed and complete
The tide of tear and pain subside
Laughter drinks them dry
I’ll be waiting
Anticipating
All that I aim for
What I was made for
With every heartbeat
All of my blood bleeds
Running inside me
Looking for you
I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
I'm looking for you
I can feel you breathing
I can feel you leading
More than just a feeling
More than just a feeling
I can feel you reaching
Pushing through the ceiling
'til the final healing
I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you

Sentence Prayer

Jesus;
My burden of sin is too heavy
My pride won’t surrender
My soul knows I must
My being is yours

Let me rest in you.  Amen

TICK TOCK

Snippet

At a certain age you realize the greatest loss you can experience is a theft you perpetrated upon yourself; the waste of days given us is there any greater piercing remorse than the realization that a person has thrown away the potential that reside in every sunrise. James Lee Burke Light of the World

Scripture

For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

Song
One Day too late Skillet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNEC735juI4

Tick tock hear the clock countdown
Wish the minute hand could be rewound
So much to do and so much I need to say
Will tomorrow be too late
Feel the moment slip into the past
Like sand through an hourglass
In the madness I guess I just forget
To do all the things I said
[Pre]
Time passes by
Never thought I'd wind up
One step behind
Now I've made my mind up
[Chorus]
Today I'm gonna try a little harder
Gonna make every minute last longer
Gonna learn to forgive and forget
'Cause we don't have long, gonna make the most of it
Today I'm gonna love my enemies
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
'Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
One day too late
One day too late
[V2]
Tick tock hear my life pass by
I can't erase and I can't rewind
Of all the things I regret the most I do...
Wish I'd spent more time with you
Here's my chance for a new beginning
I saved the best for a better ending
And in the end I'll make it up to you, you'll see
You'll get the very best of me
[Bridge]
Your time is running out
You're never gonna get it back
Make the most of every moment
Stop saving the best for last

Sentence Prayer

Father:
Help me to seize each
Day as a gift of your salvation
May I rejoice and be glad
In each sunrise and sunset
Help me to unwrap each day

As a gift.    Amen

NIGHTINGALE

Snippet

You cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from building nests in your hair. Chinese Proverb

Scripture

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:25-27

Nightingale
Sing us a song
Of a love that once belonged
Nightingale
Tell me your tale
Was your journey far too long?
Does it seem like I'm looking for an answer
To a question I can't ask
I don't know which way the feather falls
Or if i should blow it to the left
All the voices that are spinnin' around me
Trying to tell me what to say
Can I fly right behind you
And you can take me away

Sentence Prayer

Father;
Angels fly because they take themselves lightly
Humble me that I may fly
Birds fly because they travel lightly
Lighten my burdens that I may fly
Prayers fly to your throne, because of love
Deepen my love so my prayers may be heard

Amen

9/11 NEVER FORGET

Snippet

“While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.”― St. Francis of Assisi

Scripture

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
that I live among the tents of Kedar!
 Too long have I lived
among those who hate peace.
 I am for peace;
but when I speak, they are for war.  Psalms 120: 5-7

Song
Keep Hoping St Francis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCoGQCBof-s

There is a love hidden inside your borders
Just waiting to be free, just waiting to be free.
There is a hope hidden inside your borders
Just waiting to be realized, just waiting to be realized.
So keep hoping Saint Francis, you'll be a free man yet,
You'll see the sun shine again over your city streets.
Keep hoping Saint Francis, you'll be a free man yet.
Though darkness covers your sleeping love, it won't last.
Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength,
I know, those who wait upon the Lord will not be put to shame.
Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength,
I know, I know, those who wait upon the Lord will not be put to shame.
And so we wait, so we wait for the sun to shine.
And so we wait, so we wait for You to come.
Keep hoping Saint Francis, you'll be a free man yet,
You'll see the sun shine again over your city streets.

Sentence Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”

SAVE A LIFE

Snippet

It all began with an honest look and a helping hand.  Could this be God’s strategy for human hurt? First, kind eyes meet desperate ones.  Next, strong hands help weak ones. Then, the miracle of God.  We do our small part, he does the big part, and life at the Beautiful Gate begins to be just that.  Max Lucado Out Live your life 2010 Thomas nelson Pub pg 71

Scripture

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.   This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 1 John 3:17-19 NIV

Song
A Million Lives by Jake Miller
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX-2BNsurZM

the other day I got an email, i almost didnt read it
but something caught my eye right before i could delete it
it was bold and underlined, "Please Read" was the title
followed by "Jake you are my idol"
it said and i quote, my name is Nikki and i used to be dancer
til the day the doctor diagnosed me with cancer
so i said goodbye to all the hair on head
and said hello to my hospital bed
yeah see i was just a normal girl, it happened so fast
there were so many days that i thought would be my last
however the fight was tough, and the battle was long
but i felt strong when i listened to your songs
you were, always there for me, you helped my heart beat
you were my only friend, kept you on repeat
i thank god for you every single night
cause believe or not, you saved my life
Ive met a million people, been a million places
shook a million hands, seen a million faces
ive had a million lows, and a million more highs
no i havent made a million, but ive touched a million lives
Ive met a million people, been a million places
shook a million hands, seen a million faces
ive had a million lows, and a million more highs
no i havent made a million, but ive touched a million lives
yeah the mailman knocked said it was for me
handed me a box, sent from tennessee
written on the top "for jakes eyes only"
inside was a journal and letter that he wrote me
it said my name is dillon im in 7th grade
im ridiculed and picked on almost everyday
yeah they push me in the halls in between my classes
yesterday they took my books then broke my glasses
i got no one to talk to, its like i dont exsist
sometimes i wonder if i was gone, would i be missed?
but lemme tell the real reason for this letter
youve helped me through it all, youve help me feel better
youre words gimme confidence, your messages inspire me
you help me find my inner strength deep inside me
through all the bad times, you helped me find the light
believe or not, you saved my life
i was sittin at my table at dinner the other night
when i noticed a little girl sittin to my right
she was lookin at me like she knew me, i guess she did
cause then she walked right up to, and then she said
my name is sami and i swear that im your biggest fan
i think she even had my name written on her hand
she said me my brother used to listen to you every day
until last year, when he passed away
ill never forget seein my parents cry
when they got a call sayin that your son had died
man i wish that he was here now, you were his favorite
he had your mixtape and never stopped playin it
your music gives me a feelin that i just cant desrcribe
its like i got my brother back, and hes still alive
i pray for both of you, every single night
cause believe or not, you saved my life
now lemme turn the table, and talk to you
i had a dream but your the reason that its comin true
yeah ive had some dark days, when the sun dont shine
but you always reminded me that i would be fine
cause when no else cared, you believed in my vision
and now i got an army comin with me on my mission
i thank god for all you, every single night
cause believe or not, you saved my life

Sentence Prayer

Lord, We know the importance of doing for others.  Teach us the importance of being for others, that we might take time to fast and prayer and dwell with you in order to see more clearly how you light illuminates the faces of those we struggle alongside for justice.  Amen.

OUTLAW

Snippet

The difference between a criminal and an outlaw is that while criminals frequently are victims, outlaws never are. Indeed, the first step toward becoming a true outlaw is the refusal to be victimized. All people who live subject to other people's laws are victims. People who break laws out of greed, frustration, or vengeance are victims. People who overturn laws in order to replace them with their own laws are victims. ( I am speaking here of revolutionaries.) We outlaws, however, live beyond the law. We don't merely live beyond the letter of the law-many businessmen, most politicians, and all cops do that-we live beyond the spirit of the law. In a sense, then, we live beyond society. Have we a common goal, that goal is to turn the tables on the 'nature' of society. When we succeed, we raise the exhilaration content of the universe. We even raise it a little bit when we fail.  Tom Robbins, Still Life with Woodpecker

Scripture

Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”  Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:32,40-42 NIV

Livin on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath as hard as kerosene
You weren't your momma's only boy, but her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
And sank into your dreams
Pancho was a bandit boy, his horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
Pancho met his match you know on the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dyin words, ah but that's the way it goes
All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose
Lefty he can't sing the blues all night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low, Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go, there ain't nobody knows
All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away out of kindness I suppose
The boys tell how old Pancho fell, and Lefty's livin in cheap hotels
The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold
And so the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true, but save a few for Lefty too
He only did what he had to do, and now he's growing old
All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him go so long, out of kindness I suppose
A few gray Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him go so long, out of kindness I suppose

Sentence Prayer

Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner

SURRENDER

Snippet

If you are a Christian, your life is not your own, rather than dying, however, God asks you to live for him as a living sacrifice.  Every day, you are to offer your life to Him for His service.  Henry T. Blackaby

Scripture

My heart is not proud, Lord,
    my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quieted myself,
    I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and forevermore. Psalms 131

Song
Surrender by Kim Walker

Verse 1:
There is no love, sweeter than the love You pour on me.
There is no song, sweeter than the song You sing to me.
There is no place, that I would rather be,
Than here at Your feet, laying down everything.
Chorus:
All to You, I surrender,
Everything, every part of me.
All to You, I surrender,
All of my dreams, all of me.
Verse 2:
If worship's like perfume, I'll pour mine out on You.
For there is none as deserving of my love like You.
So take my hand and draw me into You,
I want to be swept away, lost in love for You.
Bridge 1:
I surrender...
Bridge 2:
No turning back, I've made up my mind,
I'm giving all of my life this time.
Bridge 3:
Your love makes it worth it,
Your love makes it worth it all,
Your love makes it worth it all.

Sentence Prayer

Jesus
All to You I surrender;
All to You I freely give;
I will ever love and trust You,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all. Amen

(Based on Old Hymn I Surrender all Judson W. Van DeVenter)
