Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-15

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-15

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Read Acts 6:1-6 – Seven “deacons” chosen, after which the apostles’ hands were laid on

(verse 6).

Immediately afterward (verse 8), one of the seven did miracles.

The next person to do miracles was in Acts 8:5ff – Philip, another of the

seven.

Pray

Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the soft steps of a child.
Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the gentle breeze.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rustling leaves.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rushing stream.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the harp strings playing.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the caroling wren.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change my heart and make me live.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change me so I do your will.

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-14

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-14

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

ECC position is only through the laying on of Apostles’ hands, were non-apostles given the miraculous gifts of the Spirit.

Notice in Acts 2 – The “tongues” were understandable languages (not ecstatic utterances).
Verse 6 – Own language (actually dialect).
Verse 8 – Own language (also dialect).
Verse 11 – Own tongues (“glossa” – language).

Read Acts chapter 2 through  Acts 6, all miracles took place by the apostles only.

Pray

Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the soft steps of a child.
Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the gentle breeze.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rustling leaves.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rushing stream.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the harp strings playing.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the caroling wren.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change my heart and make me live.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change me so I do your will.

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-13

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-13

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

ECC position is only through the laying on of Apostles’ hands, were non-apostles were given the miraculous gifts of the Spirit.

Read Acts 2 again – although a hundred and twenty may have been present, only the apostles spoke in tongues (languages or dialects).

“They” in verse 1 goes back to the nearest antecedent (apostles in 1:26).

Notice Verse 7 – all speaking were Galileans (only apostles fit this situation in this Judean audience).
Verse 14 – Peter with the eleven.
Verse 37 – the question asked was directed to the apostles.
Verse 42 – Apostles’ doctrine.
Verse 43 – Signs were done through the apostles.

Pray

Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the soft steps of a child.
Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the gentle breeze.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rustling leaves.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rushing stream.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the harp strings playing.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the caroling wren.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change my heart and make me live.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change me so I do your will.

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-12

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-12

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Many followers of Christ claim, speaking in tongues is a prayer language. Citing,  I Corinthians 14:2 states;" For anyone who speaks in a tongue] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit"  They fail to read verse 9 of the same chapter; So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air."

Read Acts 2:1-24  Take note of how the text describes "tongues"  Unintelligible prayer language? Or Intelligible language forth telling Jesus?

Pray

Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the soft steps of a child.
Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the gentle breeze.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rustling leaves.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rushing stream.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the harp strings playing.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the caroling wren.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change my heart and make me live.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change me so I do your will.

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-11

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-11

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

It is important for us to remember the background of the Jewish audiences (and later the Gentiles), and how it would have been difficult for them to accept the gospel (not yet written) without gifts to confirm. Also, without the gifts, there would not have been a message (prophecy was a gift). For the gifts to have the desired effect, they would have to be obvious even to unbelievers

Read Acts 4:1-20

Once, the teachings were written down and confirmed, was there a need for a continuation of miraculous gifts?

Pray

Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the soft steps of a child.
Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the gentle breeze.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rustling leaves.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rushing stream.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the harp strings playing.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the caroling wren.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change my heart and make me live.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change me so I do your will.

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-10

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-10

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Without question, miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit were very common in the early church as described in the New Testament. Many false doctrines and theological problems are the results of a failure to understand the purpose of miraculous gifts.  And a common question is; "Why are these gifts not be for today?"

God gave miraculous gifts to the Church, to reveal and confirm the New Covenant was from God.  And to put, God's seal of approval on the Apostles and prophets.

Read Mark 16:15-20; Hebrews 2:1-4.

Once, the teachings were written down and confirmed, was there a need for a continuation of miraculous gifts?

Pray

Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the soft steps of a child.
Come Holy Spirit,
Come on the gentle breeze.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rustling leaves.
Speak to me Holy Spirit,
Speak to me in the rushing stream.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the harp strings playing.
Move me Holy Spirit,
Move me like the caroling wren.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change my heart and make me live.
Change me Holy Spirit,
Change me so I do your will.
Amen

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-9

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-9

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Read John 3:25-36

What was the dispute between the disciples of John and the Jews? (3:25–36)

“Christianity is differentiated from all the other religions by the fact that it offers its followers a spiritual dynamic in living up to its precepts. That dynamic is the Holy Spirit, that sets the word of God on fire, warms the church from coldness to enthusiasm, and strengthens the Christian with a power not his own in the great battle between the flesh and the spirit.”

Excerpt From: Z. T. Sweeney. “The Spirit and the Word / A Treatise on the Holy Spirit in the Light of a Rational Interpretation of the Word of Truth.” iBooks.

Come, Holy Spirit.
We pray that your fruit would be in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Amen
