The Daily Dose Of God December 4

Memory Verse; But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Galatians 4:4,5

Catch Up Day Psalms145

There are some upon this earth of yours who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry, and selfishness in our name; who are as strange to us and all our kith and kin, as if they had never lived. Remember that, and charge their doings on themselves, not us.

(Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol)

Now may the fragrance of his peace

Soar through your heart like the dove released:

Hide in His wings, oh weary, distant soul,

He'll guide your spirit home.

And may His love poured from on high

Flow to the depths of your deepest sigh;

Oh come and drink from the only living stream

And on His shoulder lean.

(from Celtic Christmas Blessing, Keith & Kristyn Getty)

2 Peter 3 Psalms144

O hardness of my stony heart! Would that as our Lord has been made flesh, so he would make my heart a heart of flesh.  Bernard of Clairvaux

Sometimes, Lord, it takes witnessing another person’s commitment for us to realize our own lack of faith. Open our eyes to learn, even from strangers who inhabit other faith traditions, what it means to be committed to you. Amen (Commonprayer.net)

It gets darker and darker, and then Jesus is born.  Wendell Berry

Father, I abandon myself into your hands, do with me what you will. For whatever you may do, I thank you. I am ready for all, I accept all, let only your will be done in me, as in all your creatures.  (Charles de Foucauld)

All the ill that is in us comes from fear and all the good from love. Eleanor Farjeon

Most Gracious Father,

By Your grace, we made it through another day. We dedicate our waking and sleeping to You, our work and our rest, our companionship and solitude, along with all our needs. May we trust You with today and so trust You with the future. Let us commit to You what we now have and rest assured You will provide all that is needed up ahead. In the name of Christ, amen. The Daily Dose Of God November 30

Memory Verse; The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.  Deuteronomy 29:29

1 Peter 4:11-5:14  Psalms141

My friend is not perfect--no more am I.  And so we suit each other admirably.  Alexander Pope

In this Advent of expectation

draw us together in unity,

that our praise and worship

might echo in these walls

and also through our lives.

In this Advent of expectation

draw us together in mission,

that the hope within

might be the song we sing,

and the melody of our lives.

In this Advent of expectation

draw us together in service,

that the path we follow

might lead us from a stable

to a glimpse of eternity.

(John Birch, "Faith and Worship")

1 Peter 3:8-4:11  Psalms140

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. Ralph Waldo Emerson

We give you thanks—and more than thanks O Lord our God, for all your goodness at all times, and in all places, because you have shielded, rescued, helped, and guided us all the days of our lives, and brought us to this hour. We pray and ask you, merciful God, to grant in your goodness that we may spend this day, and all the time of our lives, without sin, in fullness of joy, holiness, and reverence of you. But drive away from us, O Lord, all envy, all fear, and all temptations. Give us what is good and right. Whatever sin we commit in thought, word, or deed, in your goodness and mercy be pleased to pardon. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; through the grace, mercy, and love of your only begotten Son. Amen. (The Liturgy of St. Mark)

The Daily Dose Of God November 28

Memory Verse; The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.  Deuteronomy 29:29

1 Peter 2:11-3:7  Psalms139

For worship is, essentially, the reverse of sin. Sin began (and begins) when we succumb to the temptation, “You shall be as gods.” We make ourselves the center of the universe and dethrone God. By contrast, worship is giving God His true worth; it is acknowledging Him to be the Lord of all things, and the Lord of everything in our lives. He is, indeed, the Most High God!(Sinclair Ferguson)

Lord, steady our feet when the world tries to rock and shake our faith. When materialism beckons with coy hands, steady our feet. When lust sashays within us, steady our feet. When fear tugs at our knees, steady our faith. Show us your goodness, and steady our hearts in you. Amen. (commonprayer.net)
