Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-8

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-8

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Read John 20:30,31

Why did John write this account of the gospel? (20:30–31)

“Christianity is differentiated from all the other religions by the fact that it offers its followers a spiritual dynamic in living up to its precepts. That dynamic is the Holy Spirit, that sets the word of God on fire, warms the church from coldness to enthusiasm, and strengthens the Christian with a power not his own in the great battle between the flesh and the spirit.”

Excerpt From: Z. T. Sweeney. “The Spirit and the Word / A Treatise on the Holy Spirit in the Light of a Rational Interpretation of the Word of Truth.” iBooks.

Come, Holy Spirit.
We pray that your fruit would be in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Amen

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-6

Daily Dose of God's Word For 6-6

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Read John 17:6-19

Who does Jesus pray for in the second part of His prayer? (17:6–19)

The erratic nature of the transformation journey requires patience and perseverance. I appreciate the story of the peasant woman who passed by a monk while walking in the village street. She fell prostrate before him and asked him, “Please tell me, holy father, what do you men of God do up there in the monastery on the hill? It appears that you are so close to heaven. How do you spend your time and hours?” The humble and wise monk responded simply. “What do we do up there in the monastery so close to heaven? I will tell you. We fall down and we get up! We fall down and get up! We fall down and get up!” How typically this pattern mirrors the transforming journey we undertake when we become Christ-followers.

Come, Holy Spirit.
We pray that your fruit would be in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Amen

Memory Verse: Instead, be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18

Read John 17:1-5

Who does Jesus pray for in the first part of His prayer? (17:1–5)

The wizard [of Oz] says look inside yourself and find self. God says look inside yourself and find [the Holy Spirit]. The first will get you to Kansas.
The latter will get you to heaven.
Take your pick.

Come, Holy Spirit.
We pray that your fruit would be in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Amen

Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers: A Few Ideas

1.   Wash your clothes by hand and dry them on a line.
Remember the 1.6 billion -people who do not have electricity.

2.   Learn to sew. Try making your own clothes for a year.

3.   Eat only one bowl of rice a day for a week. (Be sure also to take a multivitamin.) And remember the twenty-five thousand -people who die of malnutrition and starvation each day.

4.   Keep the Sabbath holy. Rest one day a week this year don’t answer the phone or the door, and don’t use the internet. Do something that brings you life that day.

5.   Go to a city council meeting. Pray. Speak as the Spirit leads.
