Shadow

Daily Dose of God's Word

Memorize:  To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.  Col 1:27

Joseph Genesis 39:3                   Jesus Isaiah 53:10

What are the similarities?

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities

themselves.  Hebrews 10:1 NIV  This verse is called antitype or shadow.

An antitype is something that is foreshadowed by a type or symbol, as a

New Testament event prefigured in the Old Testament.

Hints of Jesus are sprinkled thought out the Old Testament. The breadcrumb,

we are most familiar with is Jesus being compared to a lamb. This comes from

Exodus 12. The Passover lamb is actually the type of Jesus as the lamb of God.

(John 1:29) The first Passover feast eaten by the Jews in Egypt was to become a

memorial feast for both Jewish and Christian people. The Lord's Supper is the New

Testament is the reality Passover points to.

Erik Raymond writes; "When we collect the details of Joseph’s life we see a glorious

reflection that closely mirrors another life we are so intimately familiar with. This is

not because Joseph was Jesus’s favorite Bible hero he wanted to emulate. It is because

God is sovereign and he has been laying the tracks for the glory of Christ throughout

redemptive history." (https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/erik-raymond/wonderful-similarities-joseph-jesus/)
