Daily Dose of God's Word 5-13
Memory Verse: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Cor 3:18
May 13 Numbers Chapter 11
Devotional Thought There is a whole lot going on in these thirty
five verses. My wife Jennifer, this morning focused on the
whining and anger of the Lord. I selected this passage for the
hints we are given of toward the Holy Spirit.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit is hinted at, is limited and
Moses, longed for it to be poured out on all!
In the first three verses, we see the fire of the Lord breaking out,
what places in the bible is the Holy Spirit described as a fire? (Exodus 3,2, 13:21,22 Matthew 3:11, Luke 3:16,17, Acts 2:3,4, Hebrews 12:29, )
Verse 31 the wind that drove the quail into the camp, in Hebrew
is We-ruh Which can be translated as spirit or wind. What
others passages describe the Holy Spirit as wind? (Genesis 1:2,
John 3:8, Acts 2:2)
Next, reread verses 24,25 notice the Holy Spirit is limited to
Moses and the seventy Elders. The Holy Spirit gave them the
spirit of prophecy and then no more! In the Old Testament, the
Holy Spirit empowered to complete a task and that was it.
Lastly, notice verse 29; "I wish that all the Lord’s people were
prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” Why
Moses? Because only the fire of the Holy Spirit could transform
rebellious whiners, into children of praise.
Moses wish is fulfilled in Acts 2:38,39 on the day of Pentecost
when the Spirit is put on all who have faith in Christ! Here is the
catch; The Holy Spirit is only a hint when we do not seek Him in
prayer and His word. The Holy Spirit is limited when we
attempt to operate in human strength. The Holy Spirit has been
placed in the followers of Jesus, but we quench his power by
being closed to His directions. Today, will you be open to the
Spirit?
Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit. Come to me,
dwell in me, speak to me so I may become
more like Christ. Lord, give me the courage to be
open. Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit. Come,
Holy Spirit. Amen.
