Jealousy

Jealousy

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph         Jesus
Genesis  37: 24-28 Ephesians 4:9,10

Similarities & Differences

Could jealousy ever make you feel like killing someone? Before saying, “Of course not,” look at what happened in this story. Ten men were willing to kill their younger brother over a robe and a few reported dreams. Their deep jealousy had grown into ugly rage, completely blinding them to what was right. Jealousy can be difficult to recognize because our reasons for it seem to make sense. But left unchecked, jealousy grows quickly and leads to serious sins. The longer you cultivate jealous feelings, the harder it is to uproot them. The time to deal with jealousy is when you notice yourself keeping score of others’ recognition, awards, and achievements.

Prison to Palace

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                 Jesus
Genesis 41:45,46 Romans 8:17

Similarities & Differences

In today's reading we may say; "boy Joseph has it good."  But, how quick in every story man is quick to overlook, the betrayal, the well, and the years of prison.  There is always a reward for obedience, yet to get there requires travel on the jeep trail of hardship.

There, is a price for being identified with Jesus. Along with being “heirs of God,” in
today's reading. Paul also mentions throughout Romans the suffering that Christians
must face. What kinds of suffering are we to endure? From Genesis to Revelation,
God is clear, the path home, is focused on home.  Journey, well today.

Rocket Fuel

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph      Jesus
Genesis  41:42-44 John 8:18

Similarities & Differences

It was Pharaoh who put the visible symbols of authority on Joseph, but in reality just life Jesus, it was God the Father, who put Joseph, where he was to be.  Too often, I misuse my free will as an opportunity to indulge self and not to serve God.  This morning I am begging God to make me hungry for His desires.

In fact I am praying a prayer by Amy Carmichael; 'Give me the love that leads the way, the faith that nothing can dismay, the hope no disappointments tire, the passion that will burn like fire; Let me not sink to be a clod: Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.”  Amen

God the Father; put all of us, where we are, to do our part, may we be the rocket fuel, he made us to be.

Devine Providence

Divine Providence

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph                  Jesus
Genesis 50:21 John 3:16

Similarities & Differences?

Today's verse in Genesis may cause you difficulty in how I am linking them together.   What links the two verses together and the study of antitype is divine providence.   In Providence, God the Father manipulates his own laws for the accomplishment of his ultimate purpose. God respects man’s free will, and he will never overpower our freedom of choice to accomplish his purpose.  Only the Almighty can maintain both sovereignty and man's free will in perfect harmony.

Joseph's brothers chose to do evil, God used their choice to send Him to Egypt to save their lives.  God sent Jesus into the world not to condemn the world but to save it.  Jesus is the end game and it was accomplished without violating man's free will.

This day who will you serve freely?

30

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph        Jesus
Genesis 41:46 Luke 3:23

Differences & Similarities

Both Joseph & Jesus were thirty years of age when they began their calling.  In my 50's, I think

of this verse:Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for

the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

Timothy was a young pastor. It would have been easy for older Christians to look down on

him because of his youth. He had to earn the respect of his elders by setting an example in his

speech, life, love, faith, and purity. Regardless of your age, God can use you. Whether you are

young or old, don’t think of your age as a handicap. Live so others can see Christ in you.

Joseph's visible calling was to rule Egypt and provide during the seven years of hunger, but the

bigger message of his life was being an arrow that pointed to Jesus.  No matter our age or status, the

greater purpose of our life is to be a  neon sign pointing to Jesus.

Christ Exalted

Christ Exalted

Memorize: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5,6

Joseph          Jesus

Genesis 41:43 Philippians 2:10

Similarities & Differences

I pray you are enjoying the study of how the life of Joseph is a trailer to the life of Christ thousands of years in the future. Both Joseph and Christ were Enthroned with Authority.

There’s no other single person in the Old Testament that typifies Christ like Joseph, and the book of Genesis ends with Joseph reigning over the whole earth by supplying people with food. Christ will reign forever and ever over all the universe by ministering Himself as food to His people for eternity.

As we go through the ups and downs of life sovereignly arranged by God to shape us, break us, transform us, and bring us to maturity.  2 Timothy 2:12 reminds us of our end game; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;" Our sinful mortal bodies are being transformed into Christlikeness until one day we are ruling over the earth with Him.

Little by little and day by day, Christ is being formed in us.  Not by might, not by right, but by His Spirit we are becoming Christ-like. Today, and each day's challenges and rewards just like Joseph are a shadow of the victory to come.
